The good and bad

      review-star review-star review-star review-star review-star
The good and bad about my Fat Tad CX. So the old saying goes you get what you pay for is true when it comes to my Fat Tad CX. At less than half the cost of other brands of full suspension trikes I thought Sun had a real winner with the Fat Tad. The trike had all that I was wanting, fat tire so I can ride the grave roads and jeep trails near my home and twenty one speeds so I can get up all the hills. The Fat Tad CX come with front and rear suspension and a wider padded seat that other trikes, sounds perfect right? So my Fat Tad has three areas that are a big disappointment for me. First is the front suspension, it hardly moves when you hit a bump, it does not feel smooth and has a lot of friction inside. Second is the brakes, they just feel spongy and not to my liking. My last bike was very expensive so if I did not know what good brake felt like I might have been ok with the CX brakes. Third I feel the rear swing arm is too long and the rear tire can lose traction because there is not enough weigh in the rear tire. For low cost derailleurs they actually performed pretty well and the build quality, fit and finish are all acceptable. Wish I would have save a bit more and got the ICE Full Fat but I put a bit too much emphasis on low cost.

What I love, Like and Hate about my Sun Fat Tad-Cx.

Love: I ride my trike 100% off road so I feel the fat tire give me a very good ride and lots of stability and traction. I love the seat, it is nice and wide with an extra pad in the bottom of the seat.

What I like: I like the rear suspension it does a decent job at smoothing out some of the bumps on my road. I think the workmanship on the frame is good and the paint has a nice consistent look. I like that the seat is not a fixed position and can be adjusted forward and backwards from the handlebars. It kind of amazes me that other trike companies do not do this as well. I feel it is a nice feature because I have long arms and wanted to be a bit farther from the handlebars.

What I dislike: The front suspension is just about worthless and is very sticky. The front hardly moves when I hit a bump. The components are pretty cheep in quality but good enough for my use.
