A shoe pedal combination can be ideal for a person who has difficulty holding a foot on a pedal.  How a shoe pedal system works is the shoe snaps onto the pedal like a down hill ski boot would snap onto a down hill ski.  The ride now has the ability to push forward, down, pull back and up, they are able to pedal all the way around in a circle.  To unclip the shoe releases from the pedal when you rotate your heal sideways about eight degrees.
Shimano clipless pedals

Heal Support is used to hold a persons foot from slipping down and off the pedal.  The two metal tabs on the black plate will come up behind your heal stopping it form slipping.  The Velcro strap will go accost the top of your foot where your shoe laces are.
